Public Markets are built.
1734
The three markets are located in North Square, on the future site of the Boylston Market, and in Dock Square. Town meeting voted to establish the markets on June 4, 1734. After residents refuse to use them, however, the town votes to put the buildings to other uses. The one in the North End is dismantled and the timber used to build a work house. The one in the South End is converted to a shop. In March 1736, voters approve a motion to eliminate the clerks and paper money used in the market in Dock Square, and the building is demolished in 1737.*
